Training Courses

CCTV Data Compliance is working with Information Management Training Services Ltd (IMTS) to provide training on the Data Protection Act 1998 and CCTV.

IMTS are running scheduled courses in London and at regional centres. Each course is for a full day and will cover: -

  • What is the legislation,
  • Fair processing and the notices required,
  • Use and purpose of CCTV,
  • Access to images by 3rd parties, e.g. Police and solicitors,
  • What images are personal data and what are not,
  • Security, quality, and retention of images (both analogue and digital),
  • Covert monitoring –Requirements of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000,
  • Dealing with requests from the public for images under Section 7 of DPA and Section 1 of FOIA (for the public sector).

Each course carries 5 hours Solicitors’ Regulation Authority CPD points and includes copies of all course materials, refreshments and a two-course lunch.

This course can also be run at the customer’s own premises as an in-house event.

The trainer for this course will be Alan Stead, a director of IMTS.

Alan has worked in the public sector both in Central Government and in a major unitary local authority since leaving full time education. He was involved in the introduction of the Data Protection Act 1984 in his authority and worked full time in the area of Information Rights since 2000 being responsible for the Data Protection Act 1998, the Human Rights Act 1998, the Freedom of Information Act 2000, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and Reuse of Public Sector Information Regulations 2005. He was also lead disclosure officer to the courts for criminal cases.

He is an external examiner in the Masters at Law degree in Information Rights at Northumbria University. He also does the occasional guest lecture in these areas both at Northumbria and Nottingham Trent Universities.

Alan chairs a regional group of Public Sector organisations in the Midlands, which relate to Information Management. On the invitation of the Department for Constitutional Affairs (DCA), now the Ministry of Justice, and DEFRA Alan is a representative on several Government Advisory Panels.
Alan has spoken at a number of national conferences and has carried out training in Information Rights across the country including London, Birmingham, Bristol, Belfast, Newcastle, Edinburgh, The Midlands, Wales and the South Coast. He has also appeared on interviews on local and national BBC TV discussing Information Rights and also discussion forums on SKY TV.

He holds a BSC in Computing Studies and a City and Guilds teaching certificate as well as being a Home Office accredited single point of contact under RIPA when he headed a team described by the Surveillance Commissioner as one of the best administered in Britain

In addition he is author of the book “Information Rights in Practice” which is published by Facet.

IMTS reserve the right to substitute another trainer of a similar standard in exceptional circumstances.
